The following FAQs (frequently asked questions) will give you an overview of the Capstor products.

What is the difference between Capstor Backup and CapDrive?
Capstor Backp creates secure backup copies of your files. After an initial setup this is done automatically in the background. The unique feature of Capstor Backup is that it always runs. This means that after every change you did to a file it is backed up automatically.
CapDrive gives you the possibility to store files online and share them with others. You can compare CapDirve with a hard disk attached to the internet on which you can set individual files and folder that you whish to share with other users.
Both of ther services are being billed thorugh a subscription model based on how much storage you require.

What is onine backup?
Online backup is an internet based service that enables you to store your valuable data regularly on a very secure and trustworthy server. In case of local data loss (deletion by accident, theft, hardware outtake, etc.) you can easily restore all your files from the online backup copy.

What happens to my files if I don't continue my subscription?
We will remind you in advance that your subscription is about to expire. If you decide not to renew your subscription we will save your files for another 14 days to give you the possibility to change your mind. You will hae to renew your subscription to download your files. If you finally decide not to renew your subscription we will eventually delete the files.

Ho save are my files with Capstor Backup?
All files that are stored with Capstor Backup are transferred by a secure SSL-connection between your computer and the data center. Before transferring the data every file is encrypted by a 128-bit AES encryption key before being transferred to the data center.

How much does Capstor Backup cost me?
The pricing for Capstor Backup depends on the amount of Gigabyte that you are saving. The smallest amount is 5 GB of storage which costs you 9,95 € per months (including 19% German VAT). The running time of a subscription is one year. We offer a 30 day free test with 3 GB to get to know the software and the sercvice.

Can the backup be blocked by my firewall?
If you use the regular Windows build in firewall there will be no problems using Capstor Backup. If you use third party firewalls you might need to adjust the port settings.

Do my backups have versioning?
Yes. All backups have automated integrated versioning of files. You can setup up to 99 versions of a file. We suggest to keep anything between 5 and 10 versions of a file. When you retrieve your files from the backup you can choose which version you would like to download.

Are my backup saved in intervals?
No, Capstor Backup creates permanent backups from your files. As soon as you change something in a file it will automatically be backed up. The backup client permanently monitors your drive while you are working.

What if the backup is interrupted?
Backups are automatically stopped and resumed at the part where they left off. If you turn off your computer while Capstor Backup is saving a large file the backup will be continued from the point where it has stopped.

Which folders should I backup?
After installation the client will automatically select popular folders like "My Files", "Dektop" and others. Additinally you are able to select any file or folder on your computer or create a filter which lets you backup files based on their extension (PDF, DOC, PPT, etc.). We suggest you to only backups from your data files. It makes no sense to update your complete Windows folder as these can be reinstalled in case of a crash from CD or DVD.

Which operating systems are supported?
Capstor Backup runs with Windows XP and Vista.

How can I retrieve a file from the backups?
Retrieving files from your backups after you have lost data is really easy. In Capstor Backup click on the "Restore" option in the main window and select the files or folders that you need to copy back to your local computer from the file tree. To restore the files simply click on "Restore files" and the copying will start.

How long does the backup take?
The time to finish a complete backup is detemined by different factor: The amount of GB you need to save, the speed of your internet connection and the amount of time that your computer is connected to the internet.
For the first backup we suggest to leave your computer running and connected to the internet for a a whole night or even a weekend so Capstor Backup has enough time to create a first complete backup of your files. Ever backup after the initial backup copies just the changes made to the files and is much faster.

Ho do I extend my account?
Every user account can be extended by purchasing aditional storage capacity.
For example: You are already using 10 GB of storage but to suit your demand you will need 25 GB.The first step would be to order a license for the 25 GB in our online shop.. After entering the license key to the backup software your storage will expand fom 10 GB to 25 GB. The remaining time for the 10 GB license will be added to the running time of the 25 GB license. In the end you will have a running of one year (25 GB license) plus the remaining months from the 10 GB license.

How secure are my files stored at CapDrive?
CapDrive transfers all your files thorugh a secure 256-bit SSL connection. Aditionally all files are encrypted (again with 256-bit) on the server with a randomly chosen password.

How can I prevent that friends or co-workers access my files?
When you create a CapDrive share we automatically assign a 14 character long URL to this hare. There is a chance of 6 quadrillion to one that someone will guess this URL. To additionally secure your shared files you can password protect each share and give the password only to those users you trust.

How much does CapDrive cost?
The price for CapDrive is based on how much storage you require. For 3 GB of storage CapDrive will cost you 7,95 € per month (including 19% German VAT). All CapDrive products are bound to a subscription payment which lasts 12 months. To get to know CapDrive better we offer a free 30 day trial with 1 GB of storage.

How does the sharing of files work?
All files stored on CapDrive can be shared with other users. Klick on the arrow shaped drop-down next to every folder or file and select "Share".

How do I extend my account?
Every CapDrive account can be extended by purchasing an additional license key.
For example: You are using 3 GB on CapDRive but you notice that 5 GB would fit your needs much better.
You will order an additional license key for 5 GB in our online shop and enter it in the "Settings" of CapDrive. The remaining time of the 3 GB will calculated into the running time of the 5 GB package. In the end you will have the 12 months period from the 5 GB plus the additional months left from the 3 GB.
